Golden hour Nashville engagement session feat. Allie and Jacob

Allie and Jacob contacted me just before their one year marriage anniversary to take some fun and laid back photos of them and their sweet Aussie mix, Franklin at their local dog park where they take Franklin every.single.day! He is so loved so it was sweet to get him in quite a few of these pictures! From what they were telling me going here daily together had become a sweet tradition that brought them closer together as a couple and with other dog lovers in their community, so they really wanted to document their time together here before they were set to move to a new location. I love capturing couples in their natural environments, doing things they actually do IRL. Being in your element is just yet another way to make you feel more comfortable with a big ol’ camera following you around!

Since Allie is also a dope photographer she fully trusted me which resulted in some of my new favorite photos at the end of this set where we played with some harsh on-camera flash after the sun had gone down. I added a hefty bit of grain to those photos as well and I think that made a big difference in the overall feel of that set! I can’t wait to try this again on my next engagement session in Nashville!

in-home couple's session and why I think you should do it too, feat. Sara and Rob // Nashville, TN engagement photographers

I decided to take a quick editing break today and blog this adorable in-home couple’s session I was honored to shoot for my sweet friend Sara (who also happens to be a fellow wedding photographer, and a dope one at that!) and her boo Rob. We started their session at their adorable house in South Nashville to grab some casual pictures of them goofing around in the kitchen, lounging around with their THREE fur-children and just generally hanging around the house which is probably what you really do with your honey 95% of the time anyway, right?!

These are the kind of photos I particularly enjoy capturing for my couples because in five or ten years when they maybe don’t live here anymore and life has grown in ways they couldn’t have imagined..these photos are going to instantly take them back to those sweet early days in that first shared home. From the quirky yellow vintage chair that probably doesn’t make it five moves later to the teeny kitchen with just enough counter space for sitting on upon a certain photographer’s request… You get the idea!

The context of these kinds of photos are what I like to imagine will be passed down for generations. Sara and Rob’s house was perfect for this session, but my little secret here is that ANY house is going to work for this kind of photo sesh. You might think “My kitchen’s not fancy.. Our house isn’t quite yet how I’d envisioned it..” etc but if I could give you a picture today of your Grandparents, young and in love, in their first kitchen together.. Would you care that the place is small or the fridge is outdated? It’s probably ALL going to look small and outdated in the future anyway, so I say embrace the reality and think on a larger scale then just what’s Instagram-worthy today. You’ll also see that dope gallery-wall that reminds you you were in fact cool at one point and the other dozen things that will bring back a sense of time and place in ways you can’t yet imagine.

We finished their photo session just walking around the Wedgewood-Houston area, one of my favorite parts of Nashville which has been growing like crazy over the past few years and is a great hub of arts/culture/food/dancing in South Nashville. If you haven’t had the chance to yet, hit it up ASAP. And if you’re feeling froggy, I’m always ready to be your third wheel with my camera to capture YOUR love in YOUR city the way Y’ALL spend it together. It might seem or feel silly now, but you can’t imagine the stories these will hold for you and yours for DECADES to come!
